Unipart is one of only four organisations worldwide to have won both the British Safety Council’s prestigious Sword of Honour and the Globe of Honour in 2014.
This is the third year in a row that Unipart has won both awards for excellence in Health and Safety and Environmental Management.
Unipart has won six Swords of Honour from the British Safety Council in 2014 for excellence in the management of health and safety.
In 2014, only 50 Swords of Honour were awarded to organisations worldwide. The six Unipart sites that won Swords of Honour were:
- Unipart Logistics Cowley
- UTL Nuneaton
- UTL Magna Park
- UTL Baginton
- Unipart Logistics Honeybourne
- Unipart Logistics Baginton
To win the award, all of the sites demonstrated their proven commitment to outstanding workplace safety and the well-being of employees.
In addition to the Swords of Honour, Unipart Logistics Cowley was also awarded the coveted Globe of Honour for environmental management excellence in 2014.
Alex Botha, Chief Executive of the British Safety Council, said: “Our warmest congratulations to Unipart for achieving six prestigious Swords of Honour for an extremely impressive second year in a row and in particular to Unipart Logistics Cowley who went on to win the Globe of Honour. These awards recognise and celebrate the excellence of the winning organisations and their employees in managing health, safety and environmental risks.
“What all of the Sword and Globe winning organisations share is a commitment and resolve to achieve the highest standards of health, safety and environmental management and to keep their employees and those affected by their work activities healthy and safe. We are delighted that they are partners in helping achieve our vision that no one should be injured or made ill at work.
“This recognition of Unipart is testament to its determined and structured approach to maintaining the highest standards possible in health, safety and environmental management. We look forward to working with Unipart in the future to help share best practices across the logistics sector and beyond.”
Commenting on the awards, Frank Burns, Managing Director of Unipart Logistics, said: “These awards demonstrate Unipart’s continued commitment to the highest standards of health, safety and environmental risk management. It shows both our existing and potential clients that through The Unipart Way – which is our standard way of working across the group and within which our safety management procedures are embedded – we can maintain world class operations whilst still ensuring the safety and well-being of our employees.
“To get six of our sites recognised in this way is an immense achievement and I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our employees at the winning sites for ensuring that health, safety and environmental management has the highest priority. This fantastic accolade marks them out as amongst the best in the world for our approach to health and safety, and is an award of which we should be very proud.”
To compete for the Sword of Honour and the Globe of Honour, the Unipart sites first had to achieve the maximum five stars in the British Safety Council’s audit scheme in the period August 2013 – July 2014. They also had to demonstrate to an independent panel of experts their excellence in their health and safety and environmental management throughout the business – from the shop floor to the boardroom.
